And it was all for nothing

So, it’s 5:23 pm, Wednesday 18th and I’m feeling smug as I’ve managed to secure a seat on the Northern line. Winning!

I connect to London Undergrounds WiFi as I usually do on my commute home and then, suddenly, a wild family member appears.

Interesting… let’s see the full message.

Um so first things first, I should do like she’s requested and ask around, do you happen to be on the market for an iPhone 6s in Rose Gold? 64GB, in absolutely perfect working condition, with one careful lady owner? *wink wink* Yours for just £225.

Secondly, is it as simple to answer “Sony” or “Samsung”?

So, let’s extract a little more info out of her so we can start to formulate a more informed buying process.

I get off the tube and decide to do this the old-fashioned way, it’s not often I use the Phone app, but I feel this is a blogging opportunity and I need details dammit!

Sisters new phone must haves

  • Big screen 5.5″+
  • All day battery life
  • Must be available in pink/rose gold/champagne
  • Water resistant
  • Speedy

If I’m honest, as I was listening to her the first phone that jumped out at me was neither a Sony or a Samsung, but a OnePlus. The monstrous OnePlus 3T. I know it doesn’t tick off water resistance, but for only £479 off the shelf it’s a hell of a bargain, just look at that spec sheet:

OnePlus 3T Specs

  • CPU – Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 821 Quad Core
  • GPU -Adreno™ 530
  • RAM – 6GB
  • Storage – 64GB / 128GB
  • Sensors – USB 2.0, Type-C – Dual nano-SIM slot, 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Battery – 3,400 mAh (non-removable), Dash Charge (5V, 4A)

You may be disappointed by the screen as a veteran Android user, already used to QHD, super AMOLED, 4K screens and the like, but to the lifetime iPhone user, stuck with 326ppi LCD panels since the iPhone 4, which launched 7 years ago, it’s a huge difference. Huge.

I’m not saying that LCD panels haven’t improved in that time, the iPhone 7 display is lovely and in real world use, which is what we’re talking about you’ll never notice these things, just don’t go out of your way to compare your iPhone screen with a flagship Android device, you’ll more than likely be questioning your decision for a while.

Therefore, for my sister, moving to the OnePlus 3T’s Optic AMOLED 5.5″panel, combined with the sharper screen can only make for stunning everyday use in everything from the quick text, to the lengthy blog post and will be a joy to behold on this phone. But the fun really starts in media consumption. However, it’s a shame the OnePlus 3T has bottom firing speakers but I’ll always argue that when consuming media, especially for long periods of time, it’s usually done through headphones and thus it’s a kind of a moot point.

Plus I know she has Bluetooth headphones so she’s covered in that department.

I haven’t even got to the software yet, OnePlus to their credit leave Android relatively unscathed and as clean an experience as you could hope for, barring picking up a Google Pixel or rooting your Android device you’d be hard pressed to find a cleaner, barebones OS on the market, OnePlus provide you just enough tweaks with their OxygenOS to make it just that little bit more functional without adding additional bloat to your device, but that’s about it, how you go on to make your OnePlus 3T
your own is completely up to you.

But I’ve been rambling on, let’s see how she reacts to my well thought out advice and the fact that I pretty much glance over her interests in the Sony X and XZ.

Isn’t she lucky to have me for a brother? All this well thought through advice and knowledge at the drop of a hat provided to her in a place where I had intermittent connectivity to begin with. The struggle is real ladies and gents.

Well, what do you think happened when she got to Carphone Warehouse?

What the hell happened to pink, rose gold, champagne!? The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
I’ve linked it so you can go take a look, but Sheeeeze.

Well, I guess that’s another satisfied customer, kinda?

What would you have recommended for £600, off the shelf with the above features demands, let me know in the comments section below.
